Facebook as a Second Language

The world of online social networking has exploded in just a few short years it has grown from a curiosity on a few college campuses to source of information, communication and community building for millions. On this short hike we will look at the good the bad and the ugly of this communication phenomenon. Together we will explore online social networking with a special focus on FACEBOOK. We will explore practical uses, and what youth and young adults say about their use of this and other forms of electronic communication. Our journey will look at the past, present and help us explore the future of communication with this generation and those to come.

Keeping Kids Safe Online

The ever growing world of online technology raises issues and concerns among those working with children, youth and young adults. The positive and promising aspects of connecting with the global community must be balanced with an understanding of the pitfalls and perils that go along with high speed, instant access, connectivity. This short hike will share practical tips, anecdotes and hopefully offer insights into how to protect children and youth while opening opportunities for families to honest careful and open dialogue
